🎥Today on "THE HUDDLE": Will Trump invoke the Insurrection Act?
Plus, Rep. RO KHANNA (D-Calif.) joins us live tomorrow...
FIRST, SOME PERSONAL NEWS FROM ME — I’ll be writing a new, monthly column for The Washington Reporter, a Hill-focused publication that has mostly centered on Republicans but is rolling out an expansion today.
My first take? That Republicans should probably shit or get off the pot on health care. (Forgive my language!) There’s a lot of talk about reconciliation 2.0. But most Republicans I’m speaking with say an overhaul of health right now is political folly, keeping an issue that favors Dems in the spotlight in a contentious midterm year — despite little chance of passage.
Here’s a link. And I’ll send the full column around later this week.
👀 🎥 TODAY’S WATCH — On today’s episode of our new digital morning show, “THE HUDDLE,” DAN TURRENTINE, SEAN SPICER and I discuss President DONALD TRUMP’s threat this morning to invoke the Insurrection Act. It comes after ICE agents last night shot an immigrant who attacked them with a shovel, and as protests subsequently turned destructive.
Sean says Trump is dead serious — and Dan worries it could further escalate an already fraught situation in Minnesota. I note that for the first time last night — after protestors started vandalizing cars — we saw some Democrats take a tonal shift toward protesters— even Mayor JACOB “Get-The-F-Out-of-Minnesota” FREY told them to stand down.
On today’s show, we also…
Have some fun with HHS Secretary RFK Jr.’s assessment of what he called Trump’s “unhinged diet” on KATIE MILLER’s podcast. (Here’s hoping someday we can ALL be in our upper 70s and eat McDonald’s on the reg without any health concerns!)
Discuss whether Iran has really stopped killing protesters, as the president suggested yesterday. (Even Sen. LINDSEY GRAHAM (R-S.C.) is skeptical...)
Unpack the chaos in the House and growing GOP anger at Speaker MIKE JOHNSON. (Sean has some choice words for GOP leaders letting bills die on the floor…)
And have a rather lively debate about the FBI raid of a Washington Post reporter’s home — including the precedent it sets.
Tomorrow, Rep. RO KHANNA (D-Calif.) is joining the program, so we hope to see you there. Subscribe to our new You Tube channel or sign up for our email list. If you’re more of a listener rather than a watcher, subscribe to our show on Apple or Spotify.
